The Gathas: The sublime book of Zarathustra by Khosrow Khazai

Gathas, the sublime book of Zarathustra As a matter of fact, the Gathas of Zarathustra, widely regarded as a monument of the universal culture, had been considered, for a long time, as a monopoly of the departments of linguistics, philosophy or religions.

The Gathas of Zarathustra are a collection of hymns composed by the ancient Persian prophet Zarathustra (also known as Zoroaster). These hymns are considered the most sacred and ancient texts of the Zoroastrian religion.

In the Gathas, Zarathustra explores profound spiritual and philosophical concepts, such as the nature of existence, the struggle between good and evil, the importance of ethical choices, and the ultimate goal of achieving a state of righteousness and union with Ahura Mazda (the supreme deity in Zoroastrianism).

Reading the Gathas offers several benefits. First and foremost, it provides insight into the wisdom and teachings of Zarathustra, offering a glimpse into the ancient religious and philosophical traditions of Persia. The Gathas address fundamental questions about life, morality, and the human condition, making them relevant even in contemporary times.

Furthermore, the Gathas promote the values of truth, righteousness, and the pursuit of good thoughts, good words, and good deeds. They emphasize personal responsibility and ethical conduct, encouraging individuals to make virtuous choices and contribute to the betterment of the world.

Studying the Gathas can also foster a deeper appreciation for religious diversity and promote interfaith dialogue. Understanding the beliefs and teachings of different religious traditions enhances our understanding of humanity’s rich tapestry of beliefs and practices.

Reading the Gathas of Zarathustra offers an opportunity to engage with profound spiritual teachings, gain insights into ancient Persian culture, and explore timeless questions about life and morality. It can inspire individuals to lead more ethical and virtuous lives while promoting tolerance and understanding across different religious perspectives.

It was one of the first times that it had been translated from the near to 4000 years old original Zarathustra’s language to a clear, fluid and poetic modern language. Therefore Professor Dr. Khosro Khazai decided to translate it from Persian into other languages such as English and French.

We do hope you will enjoy reading this new version of the Gathas, the sublime book of Zarathustra that took its author Professor Dr. Khosro Khazai over five years to accomplish. This book appeared first in July 2006 in the Persian language in Belgium.
